Introduction
The Kat O Story Room has received full support from local and overseas Kat O islanders who pitched in both capital and effort. Their contributions were coupled with a generous donation by Fung Ying Seen Koon and sponsorship from the Orient and Southeast Asian Lions Forum, which made the project possible. Situated in the Tin Hau Temple, the oldest building on the island, the Kat O Story Room covers the heritage, history, stories and customs of Kat O. Episodes of island life in the past are presented with oral history testimonies, a novel way of expression.
To provide a memorable account of the vicissitudes of Kat O, a valuable collection of cultural relics and historical images is on display. The Story Room itself is in a historical building celebrating its 100th anniversary after being extended and restored in 1919. This year also marks the 90th anniversary of Fung Ying Seen Koon. The opening of Kat O Story Room adds joy and special meaning to the occasion.
