“Hong Kong is orange and green, warm and cold at the same time.” — Elaine Chiu
We met at dawn. @elainechiuart arrived ten minutes earlier than planned, greeting everyone with a radiant smile. Named to Forbes Asia's "30 Under 30" list of artists in 2023, Elaine collides abstraction with realism, skillfully transforming familiar everyday scenes into gridded poems, allowing viewers to explore the multi-layered textures of the city. With her unique palette, she expertly depicts the evolution of this place, documenting the fleeting landscape of the city.
As an urban painter, Elaine, with her most realistic vision, quietly lingers on street corners, creating a breathtaking record of her community with her own hands. These colorful blocks freeze the city's most beautiful moments. The scenery constantly shifts with time, always needing to face the passing of a moment. But before it disappears, someone captures it, making it eternal. Perhaps everyone experiences their paintings differently, but being in this moment is Elaine's most honest experience of the place where she grew up.
