BIOGRAPHY
Elaine Chiu (b. 1996) is a Hong Kong-based contemporary artist and spatial researcher whose practice investigates the intersections of spatial sociology, international relations, and urban geopolitics. Operating between Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Beijing, her work examines how urban renewal and cross-border integration reshape human subjectivity, collective memory, and spatial boundaries. Utilizing a distinctive pixelated visual language where discrete individual consciousness flows and converges into a collective regional psyche, her paintings and spatial practices map the structural power dynamics embedded in the contemporary built environment.
Chiu holds a Bachelor of Arts in Art History and Sociology (2018) and a Master’s degree in International and Public Affairs (MIPA, 2026) from The University of Hong Kong (HKU). Her works are housed in prominent institutional and corporate collections, including The University Museum and Art Gallery of HKU (UMAG), Pucheng Art Museum / Fan Di’an Museum, K11 Art Foundation, Société Générale, and Cathay Pacific. Recognized on the Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia list (2023) and selected for the 14th National Art Exhibition of China (2024), she is also the author of Before Memories Expire: Hong Kong Cityscape Aesthetics and Impressions (Chung Hwa Publishing, 2023; revised ed., 2026).
